Part of the joys of reading is to break apart the text and apply it to your own life. The following presentation has portions of books that you will have the opportunity to read this year. For each of the quotes, write a one paragraph explanation of the text using references from the quote.
Explaining a Text
This activity accomplishes fifth grade literature standard 1: Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
Educational Technology Standard 7: Routinely and efficiently use on-line information resources to meet needs for collaboration, research, publications, communications, and productivity.
